Sweet Briar Child Development Center, originally established as Little Dudes Daycare in 1961 by Mrs. Ellen Smith, emerged to meet the growing need for childcare in South Austin as more women entered the workforce. From the start, our focus has been on providing high-quality early education. We take pride in our long history as the first early education program in South Austin, with our evolving brand reflecting the quality of our school and the vibrant neighborhood we serve.

Our mission is to lay a foundation for lifelong learning and school readiness through high-quality early care and education for the South Austin community. For over 30 years, Sweet Briar has maintained a Texas Rising Star Four-Star rating. We also partner with AISD for our Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 classes, making us an integral part of the AISD network. Our Dual Language program welcomes students from single or multi-language households, offering them the opportunity to become multilingual during the critical period when their brains are most receptive to new information. Powered by the Frog Street curriculum, our bilingual staff ensures that young learners can develop proficiency in multiple languages. Join us in fostering your child’s multilingual future.

Sweet Briar Child Development Center utilizes the Frog Street curriculum for our infant and toddler programs. Frog Street is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum designed to meet the needs of diverse learners while supporting various developmental learning domains. This engaging, interactive pre-kindergarten curriculum celebrates the joy of learning as children travel down the road to success. On a day-to-day basis, you can expect your child to engage in activities such as song, dance, mathematics, dramatic play, science, outdoor activities, coding, arts and crafts, reading, writing, and more, all aimed at maximizing their development.
